The wood texture cover gives it a leathery smooth feel and the edges are well-sealed with no noticeable bends or folds as it goes under the interior lining. The print of the ruled lines is pale enough as not to detract from the text that you are creating. But with the ruled lines you are able to keep your writing in a more orderly fashion. The included pen is a rather good quality item and does not appear to be just an afterthought. There is a pocket on the rounded spine of the notebook to hold the pen when not in use. I did find that with or without the pen it is somewhat difficult to keep the notebook open as it is new and the spine does not want to flex. There are about 200 pages on which to write and a section in the back of the notebook where you can keep track of names and addresses. This is like some of the much larger notebooks that I have had in the past and it is definitely at a much lower cost than their $100 to $150 price tag. There are no bindings or rings to come loose and allow you to loose pages. If you are like me and you have notes that you want to carry in your notebook it is nice to have the elastic strap that you can wrap around the notebook to keep it all inside. For those that have trouble keeping up with where you left off with your writing there is a ribbon book mark. When I saw the little fob at the end of the ribbon, I immediately thought it would be perfect to have someone’s initials engraved on the fob.
