It has a standard bulb and round glass cover. There is heat produced by the bulb and then the glass shade gets hot. If you accidentally touch the glass you are likely to get burned. Then there is that bright bulb shining in your face. It is also an annoyance to the others sitting in the room trying to watch TV with this bright lamp shining in their faces also. Now here comes the new LED desk lamp by Holan. This lamp does not get hot. There is no bright bulb to shine in your face. The sleek design of the lamp fits nicely on my desk and does not shine in the faces of the others in the room. I like the touch controls that can be used to not only turn the lamp on and off, but adjust the brightness of the lamp, the color modes, and set a timer to turn the lamp off. With the adjustable arm it is easy to set the position of the lamp so that the illumination is in the right place and not causing glare all over the screen like the old lamp with a bulb. And without the glare it is easier to get your work done without all the eye strain. No more top heavy lamp with a bulb that is easy to tip over and then have the hot bulb on you or your computer. This light weight lamp is slim in design and you can set it in front of you and above your computer screen and still see over it if you want to watch the TV or check on something going on in the room. And with the LED bulb the electricity consumption must be much less, and the need to produce more cooling in the room to make up for the heat coming from the old lamp is also missing.
