The clock runs off 4 AAA batteries or there is a port on the back where you can plug in a standard transformer. I had a transformer left from a previous electronic device that worked perfectly. Also there is a set of wafer batteries in the clock which I assume are there for the demo mode that can be used before you put in the regular AAA batteries. There is enough light from the clock to light the room at night, so you don’t need an additional night light in a child’s room. The night light feature can be used with the clock or turned off. Besides the day, date, and clock there is a built in temperature display. The letters of each display are large enough that they are easy to identify. This clock would be appropriate in a kids’ bedroom or playroom. It is made from some sturdy material so it can take a certain amount of abuse when bumped or knocked to the floor.
