After you plug in the power transformer to the porch outlet the cable leading to the light strand has sufficient distance to the lights that there is only the waterproof cable and the lights themselves exposed to the elements. Then the remote control for the lights works at a distance of up to 49 feet or so. You can use the remote to change the lights to any of 10 different brightness levels and change the flashing speed in and of 10 different modes.
